The proposed European Standard prEN 18286, Artificial Intelligence – Quality Management System for EU AI Act Regulatory Purposes has officially reached the Enquiry stage in the CEN-CENELEC system. This marks a significant step forward in aligning AI governance with the requirements of the EU AI Act.
Developed by CEN-CENELEC JTC 21, the committee tasked with responding to the AI Act, prEN 18286 is a home-grown European standard designed to provide presumption of conformity with Article 17 of the Act. In this context, “quality” means compliance with the entire AI Act, which is fundamentally a product safety regulation.
