Significant milestone for European AI standardization

July marks an important milestone with the expected publication of EN 18286 “Quality Management System for EU AI Act Regulatory”.

This standard represents a major step towards providing organizations with a practical and structured framework for implementing AI governance and demonstrating conformity with the requirements of the EU AI Act.

At the same time, several key standards are actively progressing through the Public Hearing (Enquiry) phase:

📌 prEN 18228 – AI Risk Management (Public Hearing until 30 July 2026)
📌 prEN 18282 – Cybersecurity Specifications for AI Systems (Public Hearing until 30 July 2026)
📌 prEN 18229-1 – AI Trustworthiness Framework – Part 1: Logging (Public Hearing until 20 August 2026)
📌 prEN 18288 – Taxonomy of AI Tasks in Computer Vision (Public Hearing until 16 July 2026)

Together, these standards contribute to building the foundations needed for trustworthy, secure and responsible AI across Europe.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of hundreds of experts from industry, academia, public authorities, SMEs, consumer organizations and national standards bodies who contribute their time, expertise and commitment to consensus-based standardization.

The work continues after the summer, but this is an excellent moment to recognize how far CEN-CENELEC/JTC 21 have come in supporting the practical implementation of the EU AI Act through European standards.
