Strategic Advisory Group
The SAG is a working group reporting to JTC 21. The scope of SAG is to support JTC 21 in exploring ways and means for supporting the implementation of the trustworthy Digital Single Market in terms of AI aspects with European standardization deliverables (standards, technical reports etc.).
The tasks of the SAG in WG 1 is to:
1) monitor AI developments and issues, especially future challenges relating to the development of new and advanced technologies including overlaps with other sectors that may transcend the digital sector,
2) coordinate crosscutting issues across WGs in JTC 21,
3) systematically assess how standards can support European regulations and policies related to AI and provide regular input to JTC 21 to ensure a consistent relationship between standardization and regulations/policies including a possible standardization request from the European Commission,
4) explore possible needs for liaisons with other European initiatives,
5) give recommendations to JTC 21 regarding possible challenges or synergies with the international standards-setting environment (e.g. ISO/IEC JTC 1), and 6) Propose actions to raise awareness on the importance of standards as a key element in AI development and usage across Europe.
